SANTOSH & RAM S. ARYA
This non-profit school opened in 2001 and currently has 375 students enrolled in kindergarten through fourth grade. 90 students will be admitted each year for the next two years, and 60 students per year thereafter- with a total of about 850 students. Currently, there is a 6:4 ratio of boys to girls and the first graduating class will earn their high school diplomas in 2012.
Spread over 28 acres, the school will have 44,000 square feet of covered area, including a three-story building, upon completion. Mr. and Mrs. Arya donated 25 acres toward the grounds from their own agricultural holdings, and bought the remaining three acres.
In addition to a traditional classroom curriculum, the students at Sukhram Memorial Public School also benefit from learning about the Indian culture and taking part in physical education, yoga, public speaking, and gardening, etc. A typical school day lasts about one hour longer than the government schools, and the school year is also 30-40 days longer than that of a government school.
The Aryas, who dream of making the Sukhram Memorial Public School one of the best primary schools in the nation, have thus far committed one million dollars to the school, to be allocated in increments of $100,000 per year for ten years, or as needed.
