Scholarship, general overview

 

Purpose:

 

     1.  To provide financial assistance to academically brilliant students thus helping them

          achieve their educational goals and realize their full potential.

     2.  To assist, encourage and motivate students to become responsible citizens with a

          strong sense of serving the country in general and their community in particular.

 

Eligibility:

 

Applicant must

     1.   Have at least 60% marks in 10th grade and onward.

     2.   Be a jat and be pursuing college education in India.

     3.   Demonstrate a compelling need for financial support.

     4.   Have secured merit-based admission to a degree program at a recognized

           institution.

 

Deadlines and Procedure:

 

     1.  Decisions on scholarship applications are made twice a year. Applications received

          by March 31 and by September 30 are considered to have met the deadline for

          April and October meetings respectively.

     2.  The scholarship committee will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees

          by the end of May and November respectively.

     3.  Following the Board of Trustees approval, applicants will be notified of the

          decision and checks will be mailed to successful applicants.

 

Required Supporting Documents (Certified/attested, where applicable):

 

     1.  All academic records/mark sheets from 10th grade onward.

     2.  Affidavit of familyŐs total annual income.

     3.  Yearly tuition and other educational expenses.

     4.  A minimum of 450 words essay written in English or Hindi. The essay, which is

          an important part of the application package, will be evaluated for clarity of

          thought, sense of purpose and the authorŐs writing skills. The applicant should

          write on the following topic:

 

          Describe the difficulties (social, financial, emotional, physical etc.) you had to

          overcome as a student. Discuss its impact and tell what you have learned from

          the experience and how it has shaped your personality.

          Describe in one paragraph what community service you would undertake if

          you are a recipient of this scholarship.
